2010 Amici Morisoli Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
About the Wine: This 2010 Amici Cellars Morisoli Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine that is at once complex and muscular, while elegant and beautifully balanced. With its flavors of dark fruits, dusty cocoa and hints of minerality, the wine fully expresses the distinctive characteristics and terroir of the celebrated Morisoli Vineyard. 100 cases produced.
Winemaker Notes: Aromas open with deep black fruits, hints of mocha, and flinty minerality. On the palate, this full-bodied wine shows focused flavors of cassis, wild blackberries, and dark plums accented by black olive and dusty earth. Framed by firm but refined tannins, this wine displays the power and elegance that is so characteristic of this vineyard.
Vineyard Notes: Morisoli Vineyard consists of 53 contiguous acres on the famed Rutherford Bench in the Napa Valley. Gary Morisoli is the fourth generation of his family to grow grapes on this historic property, which has been family-farmed for over 100 years. Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit from this vineyard is some of the most sought after in the Napa Valley. Surrounded by Staglin Family Vineyard, Scarecrow, Joseph Phelps Vineyards and Inglenook, Morisoli Vineyard fruit exhibits classic “Rutherford Dust” qualities and rich Cabernet Sauvignon character.
2010 Vintage: The relatively cool growing season began with excellent amounts of winter rainfall to replenish the vines and no frost damage in the vineyards. Occasional heat spikes in late summer and early fall encouraged ripening and higher sugar levels. Cooler than average temperatures returned again in early September, but gave way to a welcome warm and consistent "Indian Summer" that was just the ticket, bringing good flavor and color development across the board. The result is elegant wines with structure and moderate alcohol levels. Fruit flavors are well-developed and balanced in this vintage, leading to wines that will age gracefully for many years.

"94 Points, Cellar Selection. This 100% Cabernet is nowhere ready to drink now. The individual parts are all at odds with each other. You have intense flavors of cassis, blackberries, mocha and minerals, on the one hand. Then there’s the new French oak, toasty and sweet. Finally are tannins, from both grape skins and oak, that are so tough, they shut down the palate. But the structure is so perfect, the balance so harmonious, that the wine should easily negotiate the next 10, 15, 20 years."

"93 Points. The dense ruby/purple-colored 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Morisolli from Rutherford boasts a stunning perfume of blueberries, black raspberries, acacia flowers and spice. This rich, layered 2010 is the most complete and impressive wine of this quartet. Still youthful, it will benefit from several more years of bottle age, and should drink well for two decades. Impressive!"

"90 Points." Featured in "11 Outstanding Cabernets from Rutherford," Wine Spectator, November 2013
"This has both length and depth, a 100 percent cabernet from the dust of the Morisoli tract in Rutherford. It’s the most intense of the cabs tasted from this brand, having spent two years to date in bottle. It should age well for a couple of decades. There’s a gorgeous nose of black fruit, followed by a full mouth of black fruit and black olives —an earthy, well-rounded cab for the aficionados."
