2009 Amici Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon
About the Wine: This 2009 Amici Cellars Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a fresh, elegant expression of its famous appellation. The vineyard source for this wine sits on the eastern side of the Mayacamas at an elevation of approximately 1500 feet. The combination of morning sun and evenings cooled by mountain air allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly without major heat spikes. These conditions produced an elegant, balanced wine with spicy aromas and Spring Mountain’s signature dark red fruit and graceful tannins, highlighted by fresh acidity. 125 cases produced.
Winemaker Notes: This is a bright, fresh wine with initial spicy aromas of clove and allspice layered with dark red fruit. On the palate a core of juicy raspberries and blueberries is accented by earthy notes of black olive, balanced tannins and fresh acidity. -Joel Aiken

Appellation Notes: The Spring Mountain appellation lies above the town of St. Helena on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains that separate Napa Valley from Sonoma Valley. The area is defined by small vineyards, often hand-tilled on terraces and sloping meadows, and wineries hidden from view among steep winding roads. Over the years, despite its limited space and remoteness, the Spring Mountain appellation has produced an abundance of wines acclaimed worldwide for an unmistakable profile. Unlike other mountain appellations, these wines have an intense flavor that leans more to dark red fruit than black, with an earthy minerality and unusually silky, balanced tannins. 2009 Vintage: A mild spring created very little frost damage, and late spring rains filled the irrigation reservoirs. A near perfect summer, with moderate and even warm weather and no extended heat spikes, allowed the fruit to slowly ripen to perfection, deepening color, creating perfumed aromas, and increasing the flavor complexity of the finished wine. Because harvest is so late on Spring Mountain, it’s not uncommon to have some rain at the end, which settles the dust and makes harvest easier.

Product Reviews:94 Points "This 100% Cabernet is soft, rich, fruity and almost sweet in ripe, jammy blackberry and cherry flavors... The acidity is firm and mouthwatering, and the tannins are wonderful. Drink now-2015. --S.H.” Wine Enthusiast, October 2012
92 Points "A lean, spicy, minerally mountain Cab with very good concentration of fresh, ripe (but not overripe), dark berry fruit with accents of fresh herbs and lovely definition.” WineReviewsOnline.com, November 2012
91 Points "This wine is deep in cassis and tobacco-tinged fruit and hints at dusty soils from first to last. Its evident ripeness is never an issue or concern because the finely focused fruit stays the course and brings good balance and youthful energy to the insistent flavors. Supple in its texture in a way that belies its solid, tannin-firmed underbelly, it is a wine that is going to last for years to come even if capable of pleasing in the here now."
